Dr Oz Eat Curry Prevent Alzheimers

Dr Oz Eat Curry Prevent Alzheimer's Disease
Dr.Oz's number one suggestion -- eat curry once or twice a week to help prevent Alzheimer's disease......
From time to time, Dr Oz covers Alzheimer's disease on his television show. He recently devoted a third of his show to Alzheimer's. He did a great job of framing the impending epidemic that is Alzheimer's.
Dr Oz said:
  • Alzheimer's is a long slow death sentence.
In the future, either you get it, or know someone that has it (Alzheimer's).
On his television show, Dr. Oz demonstrated the difference between a healthy brain, and a brain deseased with Alzheimer's. This comparison was really instructive.
During the show Dr Oz, and his guest, went on to mention the importance of physical exercise, brain fitness, and diet as a means of preventing the onset of Alzheimer's. The Alzheimer's Reading Room blog has over 100 articles on these topics. You can use the search box on the right sidebar to learn more.
At the very end of the segment, Dr Oz said that one of the best ways to ward off Alzheimer's is to eat curry. He suggested that everyone eat two servings of curry each week.
This reminded me that Professor Murali Doraiswamy, director of the Mental Fitness Laboratory at the Department of Psychiatry, Duke University Medical Center, said something very similar last year.
Professor Doraiswamy said: "There is very solid evidence that curcumin binds to plaques, and basic research on animals engineered to produce human amyloid plaques has shown benefits. Turmeric has been studied not just in Alzheimer's research but for a variety of conditions, such as cancer and arthritis. Turmeric is often referred to as the spice of life in ancient Indian medical lore."
Dr. Doraiswamy went on to say.
"Don't expect an occasional curry to counterbalance a poor lifestyle. However, if you have a good diet and take plenty of exercise, eating curry regularly could help prevent dementia."

Dr. Doraiswamy is co-author of  The Alzheimer's Action Plan. One of the best books on Alzheimer's and my personal favorite.
You could consider these healthy eating tips: Mediterranean diet, olive oil, and curry. Dr Oz mentioned or alluded to all of these healthy foods.
