A ray of light for Alzheimer's caregivers

I just finished reading an interesting article in the Boston Globe about a program this is designed to help caregivers and their loved after a diagnosis of probable Alzheimer's.

The dementia care consultation program is a joint venture of the Tufts Health Plan, and the Alzheimer’s Association of Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Already, hundreds of families have been referred to the program by physicians.

Experimental Drug Intepirdine (RVT-101) is now being investigated in a Phase 3 clinical trial for Alzheimer's disease

Each patient and the family caregiver is matched with a social worker who helps them design a plan that includes regular, meaningful activities for the patient. The program also helps caregivers to identify and locate free or affordable community services and support groups.

The aim of the program is to help the patient to remain living at home for as long as is possible. The program also helps secure regular respite time for the "often" exhausted caregiver.
